The Land, the exact place where we are setting up the eco-village
We have found our land and already bought the core piece of it which includes 15ha. This Land is called Valley Finca north and it will mainly be used for the houses and living space of the eco-village. It's almost all pasture, 50% of it is flat and 50% form soft hills, that are ideal to build on.
It is only one side of the Valley, we plan to purchase the other side too, the so called Valley Finca south.
Between this two sides extends a nice creek with drinkable water and many spots to bath and play. It is surrounded by healthy forest and limited to the south by a small river that has to be crossed in order to reach it. To the west there's the Mushroom Finca, partly serving as a plantain cultivation, that provides lots of space to be converted to the food production area of the eco-village. Our plan is to buy pieces of it step by step and at the same time enlarge our fruit forest onto it.
Where this place is located in the country and why we chose that area
The location of that beautiful spot that we choose to be "The Place" for our project lies nicely balanced between seclusion and reachability. It was not easy to find such a spot, but we didn't give up, because its very important to people to be free to move and not being dependent on boats and cars to get out of the eco-village. For instance; reaching the beach (close to Puerto Viejo) by bicycle is possible in 30min, the village "Hone Creek", where you can buy everything and which even provides a hospital is at walking distance of 30min.
This country side is the sunniest in the Costa-Rican Caribbean area and is quite perfect for planting fruit trees. The warm Caribbean sea always invites for taking a perfect bath in the ocean, and excellent for surfing too. You can see the proper Caribbean jungle everywhere, its lush green is balm for the eyes and its ancient sounds make you dream of the primeval times. Puerto Viejo has an amazing alternative neighborhood, the organic market every Saturday is always a great place to connect with people from all around the world.
This part of Costa Rica (Limón/Talamanca) is in fact the wildest and lushest when it comes to nature and its diversity. Inland, there is the tremendous international parc "La Amistad" which contains 4'000 square kilometers, consisiting untouched primary forest, wide mountain ranges and uncountable rivers and creeks. Because of its hilly composition it is uninteresting for agriculture and livestock. Another advantage is that the whole caribbean side is untouched by the fancy hotel tourism industries, mainly because of its climate which is too muggy for suits and cigars.
About Cosat Rica and the facts that make it so ideal for such a project
Costa Rica in general is a superb country to set up eco-communities and health retreat centers. Its governemental politic is pro nature conservation and clean energy production. Its main income source is eco-tourism, for that it fits perfectly with its overwhelming diversity of plants and animals, microclimates, mountains and volcanos, creeks and rivers and all the heavenly beaches. A big advantage of costa rica is also that it is easy to reach, flights are cheap and by bus you can nearly reach every corner of that amazing country in less then one day.
